Issuing of Italian passports: new provisions on digital fingerprints
In accordance with the EC Regulation no. 2252/2004, starting from February 15, 2010, Italian citizens wishing to apply for a new passport are kindly requested to personally visit the consular section of the Italian Embassy in Helsinki for the recording of their fingerprints.
Therefore, starting from the above mentioned date, Italian citizens shall not send by mail to the Embassy the documents needed for the renewal of their passport, as they ought personally visit the consular section of the Italian Embassy. If the applying Italian citizen fails to personally visit the consular section of the Embassy, a new passport will not be issued.

New regulations regarding the validity of new passports issued to under age children The new Italian electronic passports issued to children under 3 will have a validity of 3 years. The validity of passports issued to children under 18 will be 5 years. The validity of adult passports remains unchanged (10 years).
